Bitmain Antminer S21 Pro review

The best purchase on our floor. 234 TH/s at 15 J/TH for about $1,750 — a machine that covers its own hardware by the next halving and keeps clearing at our rates well beyond it.

The bottom line

This is the machine we would buy for our own racks today, and the one we put most clients into. 234 TH/s from 3,510 W at 15 J/TH, air-cooled, about $1,750 — a proven machine at a settled price.

At our Argentina site it makes a bitcoin for about $47,200 of electricity and returns roughly 45% in its first year, the highest figure of anything we list. Run at 6¢ since late 2024 it has already produced $3,100 of cashflow, and between now and the 2028 halving it has another 0.065 BTC in it — around 1.2× its full landed cost covered by the halving, with the machine still running afterwards.

That last clause is the part people underrate. Plenty of machines pay back. Fewer are still worth switching on once the subsidy halves again, and at 15 J/TH this one is — comfortably at 6¢, and with a long way to go at 3.9¢. You are buying cashflow now and an asset that keeps producing it later, at a price that has already taken its depreciation.

Scores

CriterionScoreWhy
Cashflow10/10About 45% in year one, the best of anything we stock, and roughly 1.2× its full landed cost covered by the 2028 halving. Makes a bitcoin for about $47,200 of electricity at 6¢.
Longevity9/1015 J/TH still clears comfortably at 6¢ after the next halving and has years of runway at 3.9¢. Most machines pay back; far fewer are still worth running afterwards.
Efficiency8/10A point and a half behind the S21 XP and well ahead of everything from the S19 era. At this entry price the trade is firmly in its favour.
Quality control8/10A mature, high-volume board that has been in the field for two and a half years with no pattern of complaint beyond the ordinary. Ships with a 365-day warranty.
Serviceability9/10The best-supported boards in mining: published repair guides, a deep parts market and every bench knows them. Hosted with us, repairs in Argentina are billed at the cost of parts and the UAE has a warranty centre nearby.

Weighted almost entirely on cashflow and on how long that cashflow lasts, because those are the two things that decide whether a machine was worth buying. The S21 Pro is the best answer to both questions we currently stock.

Buy it if

Walk away if

The numbers, which are the whole review

A machine is worth buying if it produces more than it costs to run and keeps doing it long enough to matter. The S21 Pro clears both by a wider margin than anything else we list.

At 6¢ it makes a bitcoin for about $47,200 of electricity and returns roughly 45% in its first year against everything paid up front — hardware, freight, import duty, customs, infrastructure and setup. It has produced $3,100 of cashflow already, and the forward figures put it at about 1.2× its landed cost by the 2028 halving.

None of that comes from the machine improving. It comes from a 234 TH/s box that you can now get for $1,750 while it produces exactly what it always did. Buying a proven machine once its price has settled is the cheapest edge available in this business.

Same 234 TH/s it always produced, at the best entry price it has ever had.

Why it is still a good machine in 2029

Efficiency is not about today, it is about how many halvings you survive. At 15 J/TH the S21 Pro sits in the band that still clears its own power at 6¢ after April 2028, which is the test that retires most hardware.

And it has somewhere to go after that. When a machine stops clearing at 6¢ we move it rather than retire it — our Nigeria site runs at 3.9¢ because we carry the most capacity there, and that rate extends the working life of a 15 J/TH machine by years rather than months. An S21 Pro bought today has a first act in Argentina and a long second act in Nigeria.

That is the difference between a machine that pays back and a machine that keeps paying. This one does both, which is why it scores where it does.

Chart: Scored on cashflow and how long it lasts, because that is what decides whether a purchase was right.

What it is like to own

It is a mature, high-volume machine two and a half years into the field, and it behaves like one. 234 TH/s from 3,510 W, air-cooled, rated to run between −20°C and 45°C, a 365-day warranty, and the best-supported hashboards in the industry — published repair guides, a deep parts market, and no bench that has not seen one.

Every ASIC develops faults eventually; that is what the repair market exists for. What matters is what a fault costs you. Hosted with us in Argentina, a repair is billed at the cost of the parts and nothing else, and in the UAE there is a manufacturer warranty centre close to the facility. A failure is a line item and a few days, not an event.

Does it still make sense in 2026?

More than at any point since it launched. It is the best entry price it has ever had, and it makes exactly the bitcoin it always did.

If you have cheap power and want the most cashflow per dollar of capital, this is the machine. If your power is expensive enough that efficiency dominates, the alternatives below make cheaper bitcoin — but they cost considerably more to get into, and at our rates the S21 Pro wins on return.

The machines that make cheaper bitcoin, if your power costs enough to justify the entry price.

Our two cents

We buy these. That is the shortest honest review we can give. It is the best return on our floor, it survives the next halving at our rates, and at $1,750 the downside is small and the runway is long.

Buy the S21 XP instead only if your power is expensive enough that the efficiency gap outweighs paying roughly twice as much for the box. At 6¢ and below, it does not.
