When a leveraged trade moves far enough against its owner, the exchange closes it for them. A short closed that way has to buy bitcoin, which pushes the price up and forces the next short out: a short squeeze. Longs forced out do the same in reverse.
Green bars above the line are shorts liquidated, red bars below are longs. The public record only reaches back about six months, so this history grows from the day we started collecting it. Compiled by The Block from Coinglass.
