Bought near bitcoin's peak, the Whatsminer M63S+ cleared June's low and crossed to Nigeria

At 17 J/TH the Whatsminer M63S+ needs a hashprice near $24.50 to cover its power at 6¢, and June's low left it about $3 of room. Bought with bitcoin near $110,000, it spent a year in the UAE and has crossed to Nigeria. Here is what it has banked, and what the forward figures say.

A year and six weeks in

The Whatsminer M63S+ is a hydro-cooled MicroBT machine. The unit we list is 400 TH/s from 6,800 W, which is 17 J/TH. Bought at the first price we hold for it, $5,502 in August 2025, and landed at $7,202 at our UAE site, it has now run 411 days.

In that time it has mined and kept 0.0727 BTC, worth $5,938 today, for $4,064 of electricity: about $55,900 a coin over its whole run, a lifetime average that includes the weeks since the crossing. That is $1,874 of cashflow, or 26% of what it cost to land, a quarter of the way through a four-year life.

Bought near the top, and still above its line in June

Bitcoin was $110,303 on 26 August 2025, the day we first hold a price for the machine, and hashprice was $53.81 a petahash a day on our hashprice chart. Six weeks later bitcoin reached $124,493 on our series. A buyer that day paid a high price for the machine and watched the market fall away over the winter.

At 17 J/TH a petahash uses 408 kWh a day, which is $24.48 at 6¢. The low on the chart was $27.74 on 6 June 2026, $3.26 above that line. The engine switches a machine off when its trailing month would lose money at its current site, and it never did here. A machine that is switched off keeps every coin it has already mined, and this one did not need to stop.

In the worst hashprice month on record, the M63S+'s power line at 6¢ was $3.26 below it.

It crossed to Nigeria on 25 August 2026

After 364 days in the UAE it made the one move every machine we host makes: on 25 August 2026 it went to Nigeria, where power costs 3.9¢ instead of 6¢. Nigeria takes hydro machines as well as air ones, so the water loop made the trip. Bitcoin was $79,471 on the day it moved, and the year of figures said cheap power had won.

Nigeria's uptime is lower than the UAE's, 73.6% against 99.3% on our sites page, so it mines fewer coins a day. It also pays 35% less for the power. Today a coin costs this machine about $36,100 in Nigeria against $55,500 in the UAE, and its first-year return at today's price is about 43% against 37%. The guide to crossing once explains why it is made only once. It has spent 47 days there since.

What is left in it

At today's difficulty, and with bitcoin back at its previous high of $124,493, it has another 0.078 BTC in it before the April 2028 halving, worth about $9,751. That would leave it at roughly 1.6× its landed cost covered by the halving, and still running.

The halving is where the crossing earns its keep. Network hashprice was $39.71 on 8 October, and halved at an unchanged price and difficulty it would be near $19.86. That is below this machine's $24.48 line at 6¢ and above its $15.91 line at 3.9¢, with break-even at about 4.9¢. At 17 J/TH it is a Nigeria machine from here on, which is where it is.

At $3,024 a unit, $7.56 a terahash, against $5,502 when we first held a price for it, it is a proven machine at a settled price. It is not the one we would point a new buyer at for a 6¢ site: how efficiency decides how many halvings a machine survives shows where the line sits.
