Average block size opened 2013 at 0.09 MB (January 1, 2013) and closed at 0.14 MB (December 31, 2013), up 62.2%. The high was 0.31 MB on November 19, 2013 and the low 0.08 MB on July 7, 2013.

Blocks have been effectively full since 2016. Since SegWit in 2017 a block can weigh up to 4 MB, so an average above 1 MB means users are paying for the extra space. Fewer transactions per block at the same size means bigger transactions, which is what inscriptions and batching look like.
