Average block size opened 2025 at 1.81 MB (January 1, 2025) and closed at 1.52 MB (December 31, 2025), down 15.8%. The high was 2.20 MB on August 2, 2025 and the low 1.07 MB on May 31, 2025.

Blocks have been effectively full since 2016. Since SegWit in 2017 a block can weigh up to 4 MB, so an average above 1 MB means users are paying for the extra space. Fewer transactions per block at the same size means bigger transactions, which is what inscriptions and batching look like.
