Average block size opened 2024 at 1.65 MB (January 1, 2024) and closed at 1.73 MB (December 31, 2024), up 4.7%. The high was 2.29 MB on March 31, 2024 and the low 1.33 MB on June 7, 2024.

Blocks have been effectively full since 2016. Since SegWit in 2017 a block can weigh up to 4 MB, so an average above 1 MB means users are paying for the extra space. Fewer transactions per block at the same size means bigger transactions, which is what inscriptions and batching look like.
