Average block size opened 2014 at 0.11 MB (January 1, 2014) and closed at 0.27 MB (December 31, 2014), up 156.5%. The high was 0.47 MB on December 3, 2014 and the low 0.11 MB on January 1, 2014.

Blocks have been effectively full since 2016. Since SegWit in 2017 a block can weigh up to 4 MB, so an average above 1 MB means users are paying for the extra space. Fewer transactions per block at the same size means bigger transactions, which is what inscriptions and batching look like.
